Cruise ship rescued 10 migrants ahead of upcoming storm
10 migrants were rescued from an open raft by the 'Enchantment of the Seas' on the early evening of Sep 28 west of Cuba and east of Mexico. The ship was cruising the Western Caribbean, Costa Maya on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, when people on the raft used flashlights to attract the attention of the bridge crew. The cruise ship stopped to investigate. One of the vessel’s tenders was lowered and approached the raft. Cruise ship wake caused sinking of boat
Two people and a dog were rescued from a buoy after their boat hit a cruise ship’s wake and sank on the evening of Jan. 4, 2025 The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). and Coast Guard soon found the trio clinging to the buoy, which they swam to after their boat hit the wake near Gadsden Point. The Tampa Bay Harbor pilots Michael Stutevoss and Dan Hemmer were piloting a Royal Caribbean cruise ship when they heard people had entered the water and contacted the Coast Guard. They also contacted fellow pilot Matthew Riley, who helped look for the boaters. The incident occurred as the 'Enchantment of the Seas' and the 'Radiance of the Seas' were departing Port Tampa Bay. Guests on one ship spotted the stranded boaters and alerted the crew. The two people pulled from the buoy were subsequently transported to Tampa General Hospital. It is unclear which of the cruise ships was involved in creating the wake that apparently caused the smaller boat to sink. Cruise ship workers will be moved to quarantine facility
The Ministry of Health has decided not to discharge cruise ship workers from the 'Enchantment of the Seas'. Instead, they will be moved to a state-quarantine facility to be monitored for another short incubation period beginning on June 30. This decision was taken after nine Covid-19 cases were recorded on the ship. A release by the ministry said this move was made “out of an abundance of caution,” and “this step is being taken to ensure the continued safety of these nationals, their families and the population at large.” In the first swab, on June 14, six people tested positive. Days later, another four people were taken off the ship for non-Covid19 medical issues. The group was swabbed on June 25 and was expected to be released on June 27, once a second negative was recorded. But on June 26, an additional case was reported and in less than 24 hours, two more cases were confirmed. They were transported to the Caura Hospital. The ministry said after a meeting with the Ministry of National Security, management of the Enchantment of the Seas, and the Port Authority, it was decided to move the group off the ship and on land, to a state quarantine facility. “This is to facilitate the continued monitoring of these nationals. The nationals will be held in quarantine, for a short period, where another round of PCR tests will be conducted during this week. “Upon receipt and review of these results, a determination will be made as to when they can be safely reunited with their families."
