Repair of main engine completed

Sat Dec 07 11:42:40 CET 2013 Timsen

On Dec 6 at 10.30 p.m. the "Elka Athina" was anchored off Den Helder, so that the repair work at the main engine could be continued. After they were completed in the night of Dec 7, the master was waiting for further instructions of the owner. 14 of the crew who had been evacuated as a precaution spent the night on the nearby oil platform, but were to be transferred back onto the ship in the run of the day.

Tanker with engine problems off Den Helder

Fri Dec 06 17:58:02 CET 2013 Timsen

On Dec 6, 2013, at 5:20 p.m. the "Elka Athina" suffered engine problems about a mile from the unmanned platform L-7-H. The ship was able to drop two anchors 0.4 nautical miles off the platform. The unloaded ship has 26 people on board. Attempts to repair the machines were on. The Coastguard Centre alarmed a offshore rescue helicopter which went on standby on platform L7P. The position of the "Elka Athina" was 43 nautical miles northwest of Den Helder when it was disabled enroute from Coryton to Ust-Luga. The "Ekla Athina" moves slowly away from the L-7-H . At 6.26 p.m. the main engine was repaired. Before this success, the captain had requested to evacuate 14 of the 26 crew. This operation was stopped at 6.25 p.m. Blog with photo: http://www.kustwacht.nl/nl/liveblog061213.html
