Yacht escorted to port twice in three days

Thu Sep 07 11:09:01 CEST 2017 Timsen

The Yarmouth crew's pagers went off on Sep 6, 2017, at 5:29 p.m. today in response to a call for help from the "Elinca" which had lost power approximately 2,5 miles west south west of The Needles. The skipper of the former BT Global Challenge yacht contacted the UK Coastguard to report that the vessel had no electrics, no engine and no anchor, which meant that she would not be able to safely continue her journey or return to harbour without assistance. The Severn class lifeboat escorted the "Elinca" and her crew of three to Yarmouth whilst she was still under sail, then carried out an alongside tow to safely manoeuvre the 40 tonne vessel into the harbour. The lifeboat and crew returned to station by 7:00 p.m. The RNLI's Swanage lifeboat assisted the same vessel into Poole harbour three days ago under similar circumstances.
