Engine failure in the Çanakkale Strait

On Sep 5, 2025, the 'Elina B', ballasting en route from Humen via Singapore to Gemlik, suffered an engine failure near Sarıçay during the transit of the the Çanakkale Strait and required assistance. The response was coordinated by the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Center, which deployed the tugs 'Kurtarma 18' (IMO: 9974890) and 'Kurtarma 20' (IMO: 9995117) to the bulk carrier as well as a strait pilot. The ship was taken in tow and safely pulled to the anchorage of Karanlı Limanı, where it was moored in pos. 40° 02' N 026° 19' E near Çanakkale Port. No injuries or pollution were reported as a result of the incident. The ship left the anchorage again on Sep 10 and finally arrived at Gemlik on Sep 12.
