Cars were threatened to fall in the water in Marseille

On Aug2, 2025, at 2.40 p.m. the ''El Djazair II' got in motion during the disembarkation of vehicles aat the dock in the port of Marseille, Several cars on the ramp were threateedto fall into the water. The vehicles belonged to members of the Algerian diaspora, who were waiting to collect their belongings after the crossing. The accident could have cost the lives of people who were still in their vehicles. The port authorities quickly opened an investigation to determine the causes of the incident, which seems to have been contributed to an improper mooring of the vessel, combined with the failure to properly install the ramp for cars to the quay. Ferry to repatriate stranded Algerians from Spain

The government has decided to send the 'El Djazair II' currently docked at the port of Oran to repatriate Algerian nationals stranded in Spain from the port of Alicante. A meeting was held at the port of Oran between the various bodies for the organization of repatriation on May 18, 2020. The number of Algerians stranded in Spain, according to the lists established by the embassy of Algeria and the consulates, was over 200 nationals as well as a large number of cars stranded in the port of Alicante for months. Nationals stranded in various Spanish cities will have to move to Alicante in order to be repatriated to Algeria.

Passengers confined in Oran

The operation of transferring the 648 passengers from the 'Djazair 2', coming from Marseille, which docked on March 18, 2020, at 3.30 p.m. at the port of Oran, to the Andalusian complex, for a 14-day confinement has been initiated. Their vehicles will be confined aboard the ferry in preparation of a disinfection operation. The crew will also be confined to the ship. A medical team made up of 10 general practitioners, 15 paramedics, 2 specialists in infectious diseases, two others in pneumology, as well as two pediatricians will stay with the passengers, to ensure follow-up and care throughout the period of confinement. Two pediatricians were also mobilized due to the presence of 25 children and 3 newborns among the passengers.
