Freighter crew rescued 24 castaways
The crew of the "Ekmen Trans" rescued 24 distressed African migrants about 60 miles off the coast of Gran Canaria on Sep 1. Some of them were then hoisted by a helicopter, the remainder dropped off in Las Palmas in the afternoon. At 6.45 p.m. the vessel continued its voyage to Casablanca.
