Ferry grounded off Castavi
On Oct 6, 2020, at 9:30 p.m., the 'Eco Lux', while serving the route Ibiza - Formentera, ran aground on the islet of Castaví in Espalmador. The ship suffered significant water ingress. None of the 17 people on board, 12 passengers and five crew members, wwere injured. Operator Baleària has activated the security and emergency protocols. Thus, the company has coordinated with Salvamento Marítimo to carry out the evacuation of passengers, who were taken off and safely arrived at the port of La Savina at 11:40 p.m. with a semi-rigid inflatable boat manned by Baleària personnel, since the ship from Salvamar could not access the grounding site. The crew has been attending to the passengers at all times. Baleària hoped that the weather conditions would improve n Oct 7 to be able to inspect the damage at one of the hulls. The company already inspected the ship during the night with the help of divers and made sure that there was no oil spill. In addition, the captain moved the ship to Es Trucadors, where it was run aground in pos. 38° 46.45' N 001° 25.86' E on sandy bottom half a mile off the coast. Following the salvage, the vessel was to be taken to the port of Ibiza, coordinated with the Maritime Captaincy. The ship has meanwhile been replaced by the sister ship 'Eco Aire' (IMO: 9858591), so that the service was not affected. Baleària takes delivery of ECO LUX
The ECO LUX, the second of four Aqua Class fast ferries built by Gondan, has been delivered to Baleària. These are passenger-only fast ferries, with a cruising speed of 28 knots, and have a capacity for 270 passengers inside, and a further 80 on deck.
