Marilee ran into tank barge
In the night of Jan 16 to Jan 17, 2015, the tank barge "Almira" was collision with the "Marilee" and sprang aleak. 113 cubic meters of on the whole 1500 tons styrene leaked. The ship was anchored between Bath and Terneuzen just off the village Doel. The other ship could continue to Flushing. Firefighters, ambulances and port authorities were mobilized to the Berendrecht lock. It soon became clear that the crew of four of the "Almira" was not in danger. Firefighters boarded the ship around 1:00 a.m. to assess the situation. Three of the eleven tanks were damaged and one was still leaking. The ship was grounded outside the fairway and later towed to Zandvliet. More than ten complaints from the area of Woensdrecht, Ossendrecht and Hoogerheide were reported due to gas odors. However, the measured values were far below the level harmful to health. The remainder of the cargo was to be pumped out which was expected to take upto 72 hours. The "Marilee" which had sailed from Antwerp on Jan 16 at 8.20 p.m. and passed the Berendrechts Lock around 10 p.m., continued the voyage towards Steenbank and dropped anchor, before heading to Ventspils with an ETA of Jan 20.
