Ferry left port without engine driver
On the afternoon of Jan 27, 2025, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus was informed of a man, who was lying on the ground, in a semi-conscious state, in the area of gate E2 in the port of Piraeus. Immediately, Port Authority officials and an ambulance arrived at the scene, which transported the 51-year-old to the University General Hospital Attiko for medical treatment. Following investigation, it was determined that he was an engine driver on the 'Dionisios Solomos', which had set sail to carry out the scheduled route Piraeus – Serifos – Sifnos – Kimolos – Folegandros – Sikinos – Ios – Thira. After the submission of a request by the Master and approval by the Sifnos Port Authority, the ferry was allowed to continue its route (in accordance with articles 88 and 89 of the Public Maritime Law Code) with 84 passengers, 17 trucks, 22 private vehicles and three motorcycles on board. A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Piraeus Port Authority.
Ferry troubled in Piraeus
On the morning of Aug 31, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus was informed that during the mooring of the 'Dionisios Solomos' the forward port side keel was involved in the forward propeller, while the ships was running a scheduled route from the port of Piraeus to the ports of Kythnos-Serifos-Sifnos-Kimolos-Milos with 128 passengers o board. The Port Authority of Tzelepi initially prohibited the ship from sailing, while upon presentation of a certificate of class maintenance from the monitoring classification societym it was allowed to continue the route. A procedure to impose the prescribed administrative sanctions was initiated by the Central Port Authority of Piraeus.
Six sutdents injured in fall on board
On May 14, 2024, at noon, the Port Authority of Ios was informed by teachers of the High School of Thira who were making a day trip from Thira to Ios, about an incident with six students suffering injuries on board the 'Dionisios Solomos'. The ship was on a scheduled route from Thira. The injuries were caused by a fall on the escalators while the ship docked in the port of Ios. A 14-year-old boy was taken to the Ios Health Center for first aid, from where he was discharged the same day. The students, after the end of their excursion to Ios, boarded another ship bound for Thera. A preliminary investigation was carried out by the Port Authority of Ios.
