Crew member seriously injured in fall on board

A crew member of the 'Lady Alara', which was berthed at Providence, Rhode Island, fell into a cargo hold in the evening of Oct 24, 2020. The man was seriously injured, having suffered multiple traumatic injuries to the head and back. The Providence Fire Fighters responded and recovered him from cargo hold using tower ladder. He was then taken to the Rhode Island Hospital for treatmet. The bulk carrier had arrived from Izmir with a cargo of cement at 11.30 a.m.

Medevac off Durban

On Jan 20, 2018, at 08.19 a.m. theNSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were alerted to prepare for a patient evacuation of a 53 year old male Turkish crew member of the "Lady Alalara" who was suffering a dislocated left shoulder, last port of call Durban and due in Algoa Bay later. The sea rescue craft "Spirit of Toft" accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic and a doctor wa launched. On arrival on the scene, eight nautical miles offshore, the doctor and NSRI rescue crew were put aboard the ship where the patient, in severe pain and swelling, was stabilised and then lowered onto our sea rescue craft secured into a Stokes basket stretcher. The patient was brought to shore aboard the sea rescue craft in a serious but stable condition and he has been taken into the care of an EMS ambulance and transported to hospital.
