Piracy attack on Indian merchant vessel foiled
Indian Navy ship INS Sukanya thwarted an attack on an Indian merchant vessel, MV Desh Rakshak, during its ongoing operations to counter piracy in the Arabian Sea yesterday. A boat, about 12 meters in length, with a skiff in tow, was observed approaching Desh Rakshak from about 5-6 nautical miles last evening. Personnel from the boat were observed to be boarding the skiff, an official release said here today. INS Sukanya, which was carrying out escort operations, immediately altered her course towards the boat and launched a Chetak helicopter to carry out an investigation. The boat was warned to stop and the crew, numbering 14 in all, was ordered to muster on the upper deck.
