Search for missing crew member

on Aug 31, 2023, at midday, the JRCC of the Greek Coast Guard was informed by the Master of the 'Contsghip Oak' that a 36-year-old crew member was missing southwest of the island of Megistis. The ship had sailed from Malta bound for Mersin. Two patrol boats were deployed for an SAR operation and ships in the vicinity were engaged too. On Sep 1 the search was continued by a lifeguard boat, patrol boat, threesailing ships and one helicopter, with negative results so far.

Four crew members taken hostage by pirates

The "Contship Oak" was attacked by armed pirates late on March 30, 2019, in pos. 03 53 N 009 30 E, at the outer anchorage of Douala in Bight of Bonny. The ship was moored at the time of the attack. The pirates boarded the ship, ransacked ship and crew and fled, taking four kidnapped crew with them. The ship docked at Douala Commercial Port on March 31.
