Russia had to suspend ferry service after Ukrainian attack

Russia has suspended a ferry service between southern Russia and Crimea after the 'Conro Trader', loaded with rail cars carrying fuel, was sunk. Russia's Transport Ministry said on Aug 23. The ship was sunk and half submerged. The ferry was carrying 30 rail cars loaded with fuel according to Fyodor Babenkov, district head of the town of Temryuk which includes the port. Russia's Emergencies ministry said on Aug 22 that 17 people had been rescued after the attack and that one person was not accounted for.The ferry service to Crimea had been temporarily suspended, while clear-up work took place.. Ukraine's Navy had destroyed the ferry at Port Kavkaz in Russia's Krasnodar region, one of Russia's largest outlets on the Black Sea, which had been used to deliver fuel and weapons to Crimea, which Russia seized and annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Ukraine sank Russian ferry

The 'Conro Trader ' caught fire at the port of Kavkaz on Aug 22, 2024. It was alleged she was hit by Ukraine's anti-ship missile Neptune. The ship later sank due to the damage suffered. The ship has been transporting fuel to Crimea. The vessel was loaded with 30 fuel tanks when it caught fire. Dense black smoke was rising from the ship. Ferries and other vessels damaged in missile attacks

The 'Avangard' was damaged in a Ukrainian missile strike on occupied Kerch, Crimea, early in the morning on May 30, 2024. The ship was run aground. Four crew members, including 19-year-old interns, were injured. Shrapnel from a downed missile damaged the pilot boat 'Mechta' at the Kerch ferry crossing, and it sank. The crew members managed to leave the boat and were unharmed. Also the 'Conro Trader' was damaged, one crew member was injured. Four KS-701 transport amphibious boats were damaged.
