Tanker breached in allision

Wed Feb 02 11:51:52 CET 2022 Timsen

The 'Torm Emilie', whilst manoeuvring to its berth in the port of Kaohsiung on Feb 1, 2022, with pilot's assistance, allided with the southern breakwater of the harbour. Due to the impact, the tanker suffered some damage with ensuing water ingress and started listing to starboard side. There were no injuries to crew nor pollution. The vessel was stable and safely anchored in pos. 22° 32.40' N 120° 17.87' E at 12.40 p.m. where it remained stationary as of Feb 2. All relevant authorities and parties have been notified. The weather conditions in the area were calm. The initial list of 14 degrees could be reduced to nine degrees. The ship was berthed at the Intercontinental Phase II Wharf, and oil booms were laid out around the vessel as a precaution. The CNPC has agreed to allow the tanker to berth at Pier 104 to be unloaded. Unloading was expected to take around 2,5 days, after which the ship will undergo repairs.
