Car carrier broke from the moorings in Emden

Tue Mar 31 21:43:49 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Columbia Highway", having just arrived from Southampton, broke from its moorings at the Ems Pier in Emden in the afternoon of Mar 31, 2015, in the gale force storm Niklas. All nine wires broke, and the stern hit the quay several times with much force. The ship suffered a gash of 30 centimeters length at starboard side. The quay was damaged too. Tugs fought hours Long to push the ship back to the berth. The tug "Waterstraat" stabilized the car carrier at the quay during the night after it was berthed again. The ship which was bound for Deeme as next port of call was prohibited to leave.
