Medevac off Arrecife
On June 25, 2025, Salvamento Maritimo deployed a Helimer 201 helicopter to evacuate a crew member from the "Ciudad de Valencia," 146 miles northeast of the port of Arrecife, Lanzarote. The response was coordinated by the CNCS (National Commissions of Science and Technology) in Madrid, Las Palmas, and Tenerife. The crew member was transferred to Arrecife, Lanzarote, where he was treated by a medically equipped ambulance for admission to a hospital on the island of volcanoes. The ferry, chartered by Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea for the Cádiz-Canarias route, was sailing towards Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura).
Ferry suffered engine breakdown
The 'Ciudad de Valencia' suffered an engine breakdown on Aug 31, 2024, while serving the Cadiz-Canarias route. The incident delayed its departure from the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by five hours. A specialized workshop had to be called to the port of Las Palmas, and the ship would arrive at its destination on Sep 2 only at midday.
Ferry delayed after accident of captain
The “Ciudad de Valencia”has a delay of at least 16 hours in the scheduled departure from the port of Arrecife de Lanzarote on its journey to Cádiz in Aug 11, 2024. The captain had an accident in the ship's car deck during loading and unloading operations in the port of Arrecife de Lanzarote, so he had to be evacuated to a hospital in the capital of Lanzarote, where he is currently admitted. Finally, after twelve hours and after the intervention of the Las Palmas Maritime Authority, the Civil Guard, the shipping company Visemar and the Armas Trasmediterránea Group itself, it was decided that the first officer would become captain and that a Spanish captain from the chartering company would board as support. At 4 p.m. local time the ship began its journey towards the port of Cadiz.
