Ferry sidelined due to propulsion trouble
Halifax Transit has been forced to take the "Christopher Stannix" out of service until further notice after its aft propulsion system failed on July 13, 2015. One of the two propulsion units on board was malfunctioningso the ferry had to takenout of the water. The propulsion system was supplied by the German company Voith Turbo at a cost of $1.1 million.It was not yet known if the damage was covered by a warranty. The assessment and any required repairs were expected to take several weeks. While technicians were trying to sort out what went wrong, Halifax Transit has reduced ferry service from the Woodside Terminal to once every half hour. Halifax Transit was trying to find out if Transport Canada would allow the Christopher Stannix to go under its own power to a local dry dock for whatever repairs were needed. In the interim, Halifax Transit says trips from the Woodside Ferry Terminal will depart on the :07 and :37, and trips from the Halifax Ferry Terminal will depart on the :22 and :52.
