Grounding on Mellum island
On Aug 28, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the captain of the ' Christine-FED 4', with three crew members on board, notified the MRCC of the DGzRS in Bremen, that the fishing vessel had run aground a good two nautical miles north of the Mellum bird sanctuary island (Lat. 53.7650 Lng. 8.1483). Because the water was receding while the tide was already beginning to go out, the captain feared that his vessel might capsize at a later date.the MRCC immediately alerted the sea rescuers of the Hooksiel station, and the lifeboat 'BernhardGruben' was mobilized. By the time the sea rescuers arrived on scene, the fishing vessel was high and dry on the sand. Therefore, it was no longer possible to tow it free at that time. As a precaution, the daughter boat ' Johann Fidi' took off two of the three fishermen. captain remained on board. In the following hours, the lifeboat remained on standby to secure the fishing vessel. However, its position remained stable. Around 2 p.m., the tide raised the water level sufficiently to tow the vessel free by the lifeboat. The two previously rescued fishermen returned to their vessel, which sailed under its own power to its home port of Fedderwardersiel. At the time of the accident, there was a light southeasterly to southerly wind of force 3 Beaufort and good visibility.
