Tanker grounding investigated

Sat Jun 09 19:30:31 CEST 2018 Timsen

Federal safety officials started trying to determine what caused the "Chem Norma" to run aground on the banks of the St. Lawrence River while she was travelling from Amsterdam bound for Sarnia, Ontario. In the early morning hours of May 29 it struck land near Morrisburg about 75 km southeast of Ottawa. A pair of marine accident investigators boarded the ship on June 8 and were expected to make at least some of their findings public by next week The ship was pulled free from the bank on June 3, overseen by federal and provincial authorities.

Tanker refloated after five days

Mon Jun 04 09:20:46 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Chem Norma" was refloated in the afternoon of June 3 at 3.50 p.m. after the St. Lawrence River Board reduced the water flow on the St Lawrence River to rise the water level. The tanker was then pulled into deeper water by the involved tugs and entered the Iroquios lock for inspections on June 4 at 3 a.m.. If there were no serious damages found, it could continue the voyage to Sarnia. Report with photo and video: http://www.wwnytv.com/story/38336690/sunday-waters-rising-to-free-stuck-ship
