Chamisa D hit by out of control tanker
The 'Atlantis Amona', coming from Antwerp, suffered a rudder failure in the Botlek in Rotterdam in the night of Jan 17, 2020. Due to a technical defect which caused a loss of rudder control, the tanker veered off course, and insted of moving forward, it went astern and allided with the quay at the Welplaat Port and three moored barges. These suffered only slight damage. The tank barge 'Chamisa D', 6980 dwt (MMSI: 244730603) broke lose from its moorings and was pushed against the quay. Luckily no one was injured. The 'Chmiasa D' sailed again on Jan 21 at 11.30 p.m. and headed to Amsterdam where it arrived on Jan 22 at 12.40 p.m. The 'Atlantis Armona' berthed at the Cargill Terminal in Rotterdam where divers went down to check the damage. The repairs will take place next week.
