Coast Guard Cutter rescued 33 people off Haiti

The crew of the 'Dependable' rescued 33 people on Jan 22, 2024, after their vessel began taking on water approximately six nautical miles north of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders received notification from the Coast Guard Cutter after they encountered a sailing vessel taking on water. All 33 people were brought aboard the Dependable and transferred to Haitian authorities in good health on Jan 23. Coast Guard Cutter returns to Virginia with 1,100 lbs. of illegal drugs

The 'Dependable (WMEC 626)' with 67 crew members on board returned to its home port in Virginia Beach, Virgina, on June 4, 2023, following a 42-day patrol in the Florida Straits and Windward Passage. The vessel’s primary missions included counter drug operations, migrant interdiction, enforcement of federal fishery laws, and search and rescue in support of Coast Guard operations throughout the Western Hemisphere. The 'Dependable' contributed to the interdiction, care and repatriation of over 300 migrants while patrolling the Seventh Coast Guard District’s area of responsibility in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry and Homeland Security Taskforce — Southeast. While operating in the Florida Straits, the 'Dependable' was supported by multiple Coast Guard air assets to interdict two known drug smugglers in the vicinity of the Old Bahama Channel. Dependable’s small boat crew stopped the vessel and embarked the smugglers. Over 1,100 lbs. of contraband was recovered, making this the first drug bust for the cutter in more than three years.

Coast Guard cutter repatriated hundreds of migrants

The US Coast Guard repatriated 166 people to Haiti, repatriated 27 people to Cuba and transferred 66 people to the Bahamas on May 3, 2023, following five interdictions off the coasts of Florida, Haiti and Cuba. The'Dependable (WMEC 626)' notified District 7 watchstanders of two Haitian vessels on May 1, approximately 40 miles north of Ile de la Tortue, Haiti. The 'Hamilton (WMSL 753)' notified District 7 watchstanders on April 30 of a migrant vessel 30 miles north of Cayo Cruz Del Padre, Cuba. The Miami-Dade Police Department notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders on April 29 about a recreational boat moored at Crandon Park with suspected migrants aboard. A good Samaritan notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders, on April 27 of a pleasure craft about 35 miles southeast of West Palm Beach with suspected migrants aboard.
