Carrera called to sunken barge
The 'Carrera' was involved in salvage works on the Griebnitz Lake in Potsdam, where a barge had sunk on Jan 22, 2024. Emergency services recovered containers from the sunken ship. The salvage work continued on Jan 23. The owner had already pulled a generator out of the water. The police filed a complaint on suspicion of water contamination. Accordingly, the Water Shipping Office was informed about the matter. Shipping was not affected. The barge had been underway with a pusher tug the on Lake Griebnitz in the afternoon of Jan 22, when there was a sudden water ingress for reasons that are still unclear. The pre-tensioned barge sank, the tug could still be maneuvered outside the fairway. Only minimal amounts of fuel leaked. There was therefore no environmental risk. The site was handed over to the owner.
