Oil spill in Colonia
On July 2, 2025, an overflow of fuel oil occurred during unloading operations of the 'Capella' at the Punta Pereira Port Terminal, in the department of Colonia. The Colonia Port Authority intervened immediately and brought the situation under control.Containment barriers had already been installed as a precautionary measure at the time of the incident. The spill remained contained and under under surveillance of the Río de la Plata District Chief of Staff (JECRI). Due to the low temperatures, the hydrocarbon is in a nearly solid state, which prevented mechanical collection using skimmers, equipment typically used for these types of incidents. Prefecture personnel worked on site to ensure the stability of the affected area and minimize the environmental impact. Mechanical failure delayed fuel supply
The "Maverick I" suffered a mechanical failure while approaching the port of San Andres, San Andres Island, whilst coming from Cartagena on Apr 16, 2015. The vessel’s cargo, fuel, was urgently expected by locals, fearing fuel shortages. The tanker was taken to the outer roads, and after some precautionary measures, on Apr 21 was towed into the port and docked. The offloading of fuel commenced shortly after. The vessel was to undergo repairs during the stay in San Andres.
More engine trouble in Rotterdam
On Jan 5, 2012 the "Atagun" encountered more problems as she had to be anchored in the middle of the Caland Canal as "dead ship", off the quay of the EECV (Europoort). The "RPA 15" of Rijkswaterstraat was sent for assistance, immediately followed by the tugs "Smit Ebro" and "Smit Cheetah". Both tugs connected to the tanker, but it took a while before the ship could be towed away because it experienced difficulties in raising the anchor. The tanker was finally pulled to the the Amazon port and moored at berth no. 8030. Already on Jan 4, 2012 the ship had suffered engine problems and was then towed to Vlaardingen.
