Collision on Paraná River

Mon Jun 24 10:03:46 CEST 2024 Timsen

On the morning of June 23, 2024, the 'Bulk Croatia' was in collision with a convoy of barges pushed upstream by the tug 'HB Perseus' (MMSI: 720954000), on the Rio Paraná. The bulk carrier was sailing downstream towards Ramallo, en route from San Lorenzo, when the accident occurred at river km 343 near Puerto San Nicolás, and caused the 'Bulk Croatia' to turn and getting stuck on the left bank of the canal, with its bow pointing upstream. It had suffered a hole in the starboard side bow above the waterline. Also the barges were damaged. The cause of the incident was a strong southern wind that dragged the barges towards the vessel. Ship navigation in the area remained open. The authorities were working to position the ship so that it did not obstruct navigation in a position that did not interfere with the passage of other vessels. The Argentine Naval Prefecture recommended ships in the area to proceed with caution while the necessary maneuvers were carried out to ensure free movement in the channel. The ship moored at San Nicolas de Los Arroyos at 5.50 p.m. in pos. 33° 21.78' S 060° 08.18' W.
