Patrol boat approached very closely by Chinese vessel
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on March 27, 2022, said that a China Coast Guard (CCG) ship steered very close to the BRP 'Malabrigo (MRRV-4402)' in waters near Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) in Zambales. The incident which took place on March 2 was regarded as a clear violation of the 1972 International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea which set out, among other things, navigation rules to be followed by ships and other vessels to prevent collisions. The incident was the fourth involving CCG vessels in the disputed area. Bajo de Masinloc is part of the municipality of Masinloc in Zambales and is located 124 nautical miles west of Zambales and is within the 200 nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Philippine continental shelf. BRP Malabrigo officially enters Coast Guard service
Today (Dec. 22) , the second Parola-class multi-role response vessel BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4401) has formally entered Philippine Coast Guard service during its Commissioning Ceremony in Manila. She is the second of ten Parola-class vessel ordered from Japan Marine United under the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project for the Philippine Coast Guard Phase 1 (MSCIP). BRP Tubbataha, the first Parola-class vessel was delivered in August 2016, deliveries are expected every quarter until completion of 10 units in 2018.
