Grounding on St. Lawrence Seaway

Thu Jun 27 11:09:56 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Bluenose II" (179 gt, built 2015), ran aground in the St. Lawrence Seaway off Cornwall, Ontario, in position 045 01 15.4 N, 074 39 30.0 W, on June 25, 2019, at 07.30 ha.m. The vessel was refloated and returned to Cornwall. There were no injuries, damages or pollution reported.

Steering problems to be solved in off-season

Fri Sep 25 11:25:29 CEST 2015 Timsen

The Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan was hopeful the persistent steering problems plaguing the "Bluenose II" may be successfully tackled during this year's off season. The department was sitting down with engineers and other experts to figure out the issue to get the ship operating efficiently and effectively. The ship has been rocked by troubles during a multi-year, multimillion dollar refit. Despite the problems, the "Bluenose II" had a great inaugural sailing season. More than 58,000 people toured the deck since July 19. Several tours had to be cancelled due to problems with the vessel's steering system.

Sailings cancelled due to steering problem

Wed Aug 26 11:26:42 CEST 2015 Timsen

Sailings on the "Bluenose II" were cancelled on Aug 25 and 26, 2015, because of a steering problem. Maintenance crews were being called in to assess the issue and make repairs. It’s the second time sailings have been cancelled on account of steering issues since the province’s sailing ambassador returned to the water in summer. One sailing was cancelled in late July because of a problem with the ship’s steering pump. The next scheduled sailings were on Aug 27. Anyone booked to sail that day will be notified if that is to change.
