Ruver cruise ship in colliision on the Rhône
On May 10, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m. LT, the 'Bijou Du Rhône' , with 127 German passengers and 39 crew members on board, collided with a barge on the Rhône river near the commune of Sablons, about 50 kilometers south of Lyon. No injuries were reported among the people onboard. The impact caused a significant hole in the ship’s hull above the waterline, but did not pose an immediate risk of sinking. The barge also suffered damage. Emergency services responded quickly and were still on site at 8:00 a.m. to disembark the passengers and transport them to their destination by bus. An evacuation of the 39 crew members took place on Ma 11. The 'Bijou Du Rhône' was banned from sailing for inspection and safety assessments. River cruise ship struck bridge - 129 German tourists evacuated
On Apr 7, 2018, around midnight the "Bijou du Rhône“ allided with a pillar of the A 7 motorway bridge in Givors, South of Lyon, o nthe Rhône river. The hull was damaged and suffered severe water ingress, but the captain managed to recht the port in Loire-Sur-Rhône, where the ship was berthed and attended by the fire rescue, police and AUS-Teams. They evacuated the 129 elderly German tourists and the crew of 37. They were accomodated in local hotels. One 80 year old passenger suffered slight injuries while disembarking, a hostess became unwell due to the stress. The fire rescue managed to patch the leak and stabilize the vessel. Strong currents were made responsible for the accident, investigators from Givors attended the ship on Apr 8.
