Tanker intercepted for alleged fuel smuggling
On July 21, 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran intercepted the 'Betelgeuse', laden with 1500 tons of marine oil, 60 nautical miles southwest of Port Busher. The vessel had loaded the marine oil at Khor Al Zbair. The Revolutionary Guard Navy believed the ship to be involved in fuel smuggling, and it has therefore been seized by the Iranian Judicial order. The vessek has 12 crew members from India and Sri Lanka nationality on board. The tanker was taken to Busher Anchorage, where it remained under supervision.
