Barge lost cargo in bridge allision
The fire brigade and civil protection services were busy cleaning the water of the Roeselare-Lys Canal on Mar 1, 2012. On Feb 29 the "Dirk Senior" had allided with the Zwaantje bridge thereby losing three tons of wood chips. The "Dirk Senior" was underway to the wood processing company Spano in Oostrozebeke and was loaded too high, so that the cargo struck the bridge construction. A lot of wood chips was pushed into the water. The cargo drifted in a region of 400 metres and had be shoveled out of the water Obviously the captain made an error in judgment.
