Grounding on Rio de la Plata
The 'Atlantic III', en route from Colonia to Buenos Aires, ran aground on a sandbank in the vicinity of pos. 34 29 09 S, 057 52 10 W, on the Rio de la Plata, about 2,5 kilometers from the Uruguayan coast on Oct 6, 2023, at 8.55 a.m. LT. The crew had provided life jackets and waited for the tug 'Alcion'which pulled the ferry off at 11.15 a.m. LT and resumed its route to Buenos Aires, once back in the fairway. The ship arrived at the port of destination at 12.35 p.m. LT, more than two hours late.
