Desert Hope gave hope in the desert to six people adrift

Sat Apr 13 21:14:24 CEST 2013 Timsen

Coast Guard crewmembers from Coast Guard Air Station Miami located six people who were adrift 37 nautical miles northeast of Isle De Tortue, Haiti on Apr 12, 2013, which were recovered by the "Desert Hope" later. Watchstanders at Coast Guard District Seven command center received a report from a Dominican Republic coast guard liaison officer of six people adrift aboard a yola in the vicinity of Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic on Apr 10. District Seven launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Clearwater and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry from Air Station Miami to assist the Dominican Republic navy with the search. The Ocean Sentry located the yola and requested the nearby registered AMVER vessel "Desert Hope" to render assistance. The motor vessel recovered all survivors and later transferred them to the Coast Guard Cutter "Reliance". Crews from the "Reliance" then safely transferred all six people to the Dominican authorities aboard the Dominican Republic navy vessel, Capotillo.
