Banned taxfree fuel found by customs on luxury yacht in Kiel

Mon Jul 11 09:20:39 CEST 2011 arnekiel

Kiel is in the summer not only port of call for cruiseships. Even great sailing or luxury yachts moor on their way in Kiel. That this can lead to complications, was now the case of the 67-meter yacht "Archimedes". She was caught between the wheels of German customs regulations. The Customs on July, 8 met at the entrance control to some irregularities. Thus, in the owners cabin customs officers discovered a carved walrus art. Although the owner insisted that this was a gift of a Greenlander, but he had no valid certificate or proof (CITES document) here. "We now have the owners given four weeks time to teach this document," said a customs spokesman. The customs found even more: the yacht had two tax-free diesel fuel tanks on board the ship had bunkered, according to the captain in the U.S.. The authorities gave no information on the status of the investigation, because it is criminal tax proceedings.
