Ferry crew located body of fisherman

On May 12, 2020, the crew of the 'Antonello Da Messina', sailing between Palarmo and Ustica, located a body in the sea. It turne out that it was the fisherman Giuseppe Lo Iacono, 34, who was one of three crew members of the f/v 'Nuevo Iside'. The last contact to the ship was on May 11 at 9.53 p.m. An SAR operation was launched in the area between Terrasini and Ustica. Next the skipper Matteo Lo Iacono, 53 was recovered, leaving only his son Vito Lo Iacono, 27, missing.

Ferry returned to port following engine failure

On Aug 6, 2018, the "Antonello da Messina" siffered the failure of one engine enroute from Palermo to Ustica. The ferry was forced to turn around and return to the port of departure with the remaining engine. The ship had sailed at 9 a.m. with 90 passengers on board as well as a cargo of cars and trucks. After repairs, the ship sailed again on Aug 7 at 9 a.m. with an ETA at Ustica as of 11.45 a.m.
