Hebo expected to raise Isala-wreck

Fri Oct 03 21:19:26 CEST 2014 Timsen

Hebo Maritime Service will probably be contracted to raise the sunk "Isala" in the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. Hebo has an ongoing contract with Rijkswaterstaat for salvage operations, but the location of the incident at New Vossemeer was just outside the coverage area. Hebo was already on site all night with oil containment vessels and meanwhile also a crane ship. The final decision will be taken jointly with representatives of the "Isala" as well as the insurance Company. The salvage was expected to take a few days because first the cargo of salt will have to be unloaded. The sunken ship lies crosswise in the fairway. Ship traffic was diverted via the Krammer Lock and Midden Zeeland Route. Dutch report with photo: http://www.binnenschifferforum.de/forum/showthread.php?66465-Schelde-Rijn-verbinding-gestremd

Scheld Rhine Canal blocked by sunken barge

Fri Oct 03 12:33:48 CEST 2014 Timsen

Ship traffic on the Scheldt-Rhine-Canal had to be stopped after the "Amelia" ran into the Polish flagged barge "Isala", 1121 ts (EU-No.: 02204465), on Oct 2, 2014, around 10 p.m. The barge wwhich was loaded with salt had suffered a technical problem, became uncontrollable and got perpendicular to the fairway so that the passenger ship bumped into it. The crew of two ended in the water and was recovered by the crew of the "Amelia". Divers inspected the wreck immediately after the collision which was blocking the canal Scheldt-Rhine Canal at height of the New Vosse Sea. Diesel was leaking out of the wreck, and oil booms were laid out. Ship traffic was diverted via the Krammer lock and Wemeldinge/Hansweert. Rijkswaterstaat got in contact with a salvor and expected to know when the ship can be removed in the run of Oct 3. The passenger could not continue its southbound voyage because the sunken barge was in the way.
