Four died in ship fire
Four people lost their lives as a result of a fire that broke out in the engine room the 'Amar Glyfada' on Aug 8, 2024, which was undergoing repairs in the Midia Naval Shipyard. Five fire trucks, a ladder truck, as well as two SMURD crews and a truck for multiple victims were assigned to the scene. Apparently there was no Gas Free certificate issued by the Romanian Naval Authority, which certifies that the particular compartment of the ship that needs to be repaired is free of flammable gases, and the work can be carried out safely. The ANR inspection is now only done at the request of the shipowner. As the procedure is expensive, shipowners rarely come with such a request.
