Suction of speed exceeding vessel caused barge to go adrift

Thu May 16 11:42:33 CEST 2019 Timsen

On May 15, 2019, at 06.35 a.m. the "Aldebaran", 1775 ts (EU-No.: 04602770), which was berthed at the quay of the storage areal Dhyrrsenmoor on the Kiel Canal, broke lose from its moorings because the container m/v "Frederik" (IMO: 9328637) which was transiting the Kiel Canal eastbound from Hamburg to Gdynia with an ETA as of May 16, passed it with too much speed. All mooring ropes of the "Aldebaran" broke due to the suction and swell caused by the "Frederik". The ship could be moored again. The water police Brunsbüttel launched an investigation.
