Vardborg being towed to Peterhead

Fri Jul 01 09:23:55 CEST 2011 Timsen

On July 1, 2011, at 01.26 a.m. the Peterhead lifeboat began towing the "Vardborg" into Peterhead, with the Fraserburgh lifeboat acting as an escort, where it was met by local fire crews, the Peterhead Coastguard Rescue Team and the harbour tug.

Crew of Vardborg rescued after fire

Fri Jul 01 09:17:14 CEST 2011 arnekiel

The 14 crew of a Danish-registered fishing boat have been rescued after a fire broke out on the vessel when it was six miles off Fraserburgh. The crew on board the 38-metre Vardborg called Aberdeen Coastguard at 00.23am to tell them that they had a fire in their engine room, had shut down their power and were drifting. The crew had brought the fire under control, activated the on-board fire fighting systems and attempted to extinguish it with halon gas but were in need of assistance. Aberdeen Coastguard sent a rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, Fraserburgh and Peterhead RNLI lifeboats and two local standby vessels to the scene, but due to the large amount of fuel on board the decision was made to tow the vessel into an isolated berth in Peterhead and allow fire crews from Grampian Fire and Rescue to extinguish the fire. The master was advised to prepare all non-essential crew to board liferafts in the event that the situation worsened. Peterhead lifeboat towed the vessel into Peterhead, where it was met by local fire crews, the Peterhead Coastguard Rescue Team and the harbour tug.
