Storm interrupted voyage of research vessel
On Jan 1, 2019, at 5 p.m. a storm forced the "Akademik A. Karpinskiy“ to change its course in the German bight. On its way from the Kiel Canal to the English Channel the ship broke off its course and headed northward with slow spead. It had transited the Kiel Canal on Dec 31, 2018, enroute to the South Atlantic. The German emergency tug "Nordic“ and the multi purose ships "Mellum“ and "Neuwerk“ took sea psitions off Heligoland ready to attend in case of an emergency of this ship or other vessels battering off the storm around the island.
