Cruise ship left Hamburg one day delayed due to storm
Stormy weather conditions have forcied the "Aida Prima" to spend unplanned days in port in Hamburg. The first port of call on the Norway cruise has already been canceled. The ship had arrived in the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Port on Sep 14 at 10 p.m. UTC. The Elbe River was closed to ships the size of the "Aida Prima" due to the weather conditions in Hamburg, so that the cruise ship was unable to leave the port of Hamburg for the time being. It has already been confirmed that Eidfjord, the first port of call on the planned route, will be canceled. Once the "Aida Prima" departed on Sep 16 at 5.30 p.m., it headed directly to Bergen, thus shortening the original schedule. The originally planned route was Hamburg – day at sea – Eidfjord – Bergen – Flam – Alesund – Geiranger – Nordfjordeid – Stavanger – day at sea – Hamburg. Due to the stormy weather in Northern Europe, further changes to the itinerary may be necessary.
Call in Geirangerfjord skipped due to technical challenges
The scheduled call of the 'AIDAprima' in Geirangerfjord on May 15, 2025, had to be cancelled. Geirangerfjord has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 14, 2005, and even stricter regulations have been in place since 2025. In order to comply with these regulations, the 'AIDAprima' was recently retrofitted with systems that will continue to allow entry into the fjord. Due to technical challenges, this retrofitted system could not be put into operation on May 15, 2025. As a result, the Norwegian authorities have not granted the 'AIDAprima' permission to enter the World Heritage Fjord. The ship turned around and left the fjord again with a 180-degree turn. AIDA canceled the excursions for the Geirangerfjord and credited the onboard accounts. Captain Miklitza reported that the ship would call in Alesund as an alternative. Alesund was already set as a destination for the current voyage, so ideally they would simply change the rotation and call at Geiranger later in the voyage. The ship berthed in Alesund at 8:15 a.m. Almost all excursions that were planned for a later call in Alesund have been rebooked. The 'AIDAprima' will stay in Alesund until 7 p.m. It is still unclear whether Geiranger will be called later in the voyage.
Cruise ship crew rescued passenger who fell over board
On Nov 7, 2023, at 1.30 a.m. a man fell overboard the "Aida Prima" on the North Sea. The passenger was rescued alive by the crew of the ship, which immediately had stopped and launched an SAR operation, which was supported by a helicopter of the Norwegian Coastguard and other ships. All passenger and crew were mustered on deck. The man was spotted in the water after around half an hour and was completely exhausted, when he was pulled into a lifeboat. He was now being treated and given medical care in the ship's hospital. The “Aida Prima” continued its journey from Stavanger to Hamburg and is scheduled to reach the port on Nov 7 t 11.30 p.m. UTC.
