Healthy volumes of gasoil and diesel have continued to enter the Rhine market by barge in recent activity – despite water levels on the Rhine falling to typical low summer levels in recent weeks.
Some 130 KMT of GO/ULSD entered the Rhine from ARA by barge during the week ending June 27, little changed from the previous week’s 131 KMT total and only marginally below recent average flows of around 135 KMT per week.
Meanwhile water levels at the key Middle Rhine Pegel or measuring point of Kaub have been below the 150 cms level – below which loading restrictions typically start to apply - since June 21, amid dry weather; official German river authority forecasts suggest major improvements to water levels are not likely over the coming week.
