Salvage operation concluded in Dragør
After the barge "Sound Prospector" was removed from the shallow of the Falsterbro Reef within two hours took, the convoy arrived after a fairly long tow in the small port of Dragør in the late afternoon of Dec 16. The ketch was lofted from the barge onto a scaffolding which had already been prepared by the shipyard workers in Dragør. At 7 p.m. the salvage operation was completed. The salvage team, crane and both units departed towards Malmø where they arrived at the North Quay short past midnight. The demobilization was scheduled for Dec 17. The whole operation ended in the afternoon. Yacht raised and placed onto barge
On Dec 15 at 8 a.m. the salvage of the "Zjawa IV" started in the Måkläppens nature reserve. The company Ardent Global had been tasked with the salvage mission by the owner. The first phase started on Dec 14, gathering all the necessary resources needed to carry out the operation such as to fix a mobile crane on the jack up barge "Sound Prospector", towing the barge near the grounding site and loading all necessary equipment onto the catfish "Sound Horizon". On Dec 15 the "Sound Horizon" was fixed on the sea bed. The water level was 47 cm higher than average. The "Sound Prospector", pushed by the "Sound Horizon", stopped 21 meters from the yacht which was too far for the crane to lift the 60-ton yacht. So the yacht had to be moved closer to the side of the "Sound Horizon". For this purpose the stern was lifted with the remainder remaining on the bottom, and shifted towards the barge. Then, the same procedure followed with the bow. Finally the yacht was three meters away from the barge and nine meters from the crane. The salvage master decided that this was enough. The measurements were performed by laser meter. The next phase was the stabilization of the yacht. She had to be righted by a rope hooked to her mast, then the wire was pulled udner the starboard side, under the keel and upwards to the left side of the crane. With the crane pulling the rope straightened the yacht until she stood almost on the keel, with a slight tilt to the port side. In this position the salvors started to drain the water from the boat. Then the wires were adjusted and raised up. The "Zjawa IV" could now be lifted onto the barge. Now she had to be properly rotated and placed on a makeshift bed. Now it could be seen that the port side was almost completely destroyed, the hull had numerous holes, worn frames, grated strips and was partially broken. It could immediately be realized that the plan of an emergency repair in Denmark and towing the ship to Poland would not be possible regarding the size of the damage. After stabilizing the yacht on board, the salvage master concluded that leaving the shoal in the dark would be too dangerous. While the "Sound Horizon" returned to Falsterbo, the "Sound Prosepctor" remained in place for the night. On Dec 16 it was planned to remove the "Sound Prospector" from the site which was difficult because the water level dropped and she had on board an additional 60 tons. Around midday the convoy was underway with a speed of four knots to a yard in Dragor near Copenhagen for surveys, arriving there around 4 p.m. The Swedish Coast Guard had monitored the salvage operation with both aircraft and sea-going units. https://www.facebook.com/zjawa4/?fref=ts https://www.kustbevakningen.se/hallbar-havsmiljo/nyhetsarkiv/lagesuppdatering-om-grundstott-segelbat-syd-falsterbo/
Salvage vessels on site
Coming from Malmö, the Swedish barge "Sound Prospector" (MMSI: MMSI:265594380), rigged with a 300-ton-crane, on Dec 15 has arrived at the grounding site of the "Zjawa IV" on Falsterbro Reef jointly with the Malta flagged tug "Sound Horizon" (IMO: 9651151). The whole salvage operation will be carried out by a Danish company. Once the wreck has been raised it will be carried on the deck of the barge to a yard in Dragor near Copenhagen. There was no decision yet where it will be repaired and how much time the salvage work will take.
