Spy ship stopped loitering and left towards Mediterranean after clear signals were given
On Jan 28 a statement was published by the British Parliament which confirmed that the UK had deployed Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF) assets to track and monitor the 'Yantar' as it moved through British waters. The operation involved a coordinated effort by maritime patrol aircraft, the Minehunter HMS 'Cattistock', the River-class offshore patrol vessel HMS 'Tyne', and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) 'Proteus', a survey and surveillance ship. In addition, the British Parliament authorized a Royal Navy submarine to surface close to the 'Yantar'—strictly as a deterrent measure—to signal that UK forces had been covertly monitoring the Russian vessel’s every move. Following this decisive action, the 'Yantar' has left UK waters without further loitering and continued its journey towards the Mediterranean.
Spy ship monitored ofc Skagen
The Murmansk-based spy ship "Yantar" moored ahe east side of the peninsula near Skagen at the entrance to the Great Belt and Öresund on Jan 23. On Friday morning, the "Yantar" also passed the diving and test areas for new NATO naval units in the Skagerrak. The new German corvette "Emden" is currently on its first test run there. On the way from the English Channel to the Kattegat, the "Yantar" had been shadowed over the past few days by the British frigate "Somerset" and ships of the Norwegian Coast Guard. The ship also passed several underwater cables. At the Anchorage in international waters east of Frederikshavn it was monitored by a patrol boat of the Danish Navy.
British Defence sends warning to Putin :"We see you, Vlad!"
On Jan 22, the British Defence Minister John Healey has issued a warning to Vladimir Putin after the sighting of the 'Yantar', which was being "used to gather intelligence and map the UK's critical underwater infrastructure. The Yantar is currently in the North Sea after having passed through British waters. Let me be clear, this is a Russian spy being used to gather intelligence and map Britain’s essential underwater infrastructure. He said the incident was "another example of growing Russian aggression. I also wanted President Putin to hear this message: we see you, we know what you're doing and we will not shy away from robust action to protect this country." The 'Yantar' is now in the North Sea after being about 72 kilometres off the British coast on Jan 20, where it was followed by two Royal Navy ships, the HMS 'Somerset' and HMS 'Tyne', which was the second time the 'Yantar' had entered British waters in recent months. In November, it was also detected as it was prowling around underwater infrastructure, Healey told the House of Commons. British warships have reported the presence of Russian ships in their waters on several occasions in recent months. Russia has been stepping up this activity since it launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
