Man died aboard ferry
A 66-year-old man died on Dec 31, 2023, aboard the 'Yaghan'. The ship's captain informed the maritime authority, which reported what happened to the prosecutor on duty, Sebastián González, who ordered the attendance of the Police. There was an investigations upon the arrival of the vessel at the Puerto Williams terminal.
Medevac off Punta Arenas
On Sep 27. 2021, a female passenger, aged 35, of the 'Yaghan', needed to be medevaced at 12:40 p.m. on request of the SAMU in Punta Arenas. The ferry was transiting from Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas and was sailing in the Cockburn channel, 130 miles from Punta Arenas, in adverse weather conditions. The naval helicopter 56 of the Grupo Aeronaval Sur, was deployed to take the woman off and transport her to the heliport of the Hospital Clínico de Magallanes. The operation was successfully carried out despite the unfavourable weather conditions, and the woman arrived at the heliport around 7:00 p.m., where a SAMU ambulance and medical personnel were waiting for the patient for evaluation and further transfer.
