Tanker searching for missing cargo ship
The tanker "Novik" on Oct 28, 2012, was searching for the cargo vessel "Amurskaya" which disappeared in the Sea of Okhotsk on Sunday, along with its 11 crew members. The EPIRB was automatically activated near the Shantarskie Islands. The tanker was the first to arrive at the shipwreck zone, but has not found any wreckage or survivors. The rescue operation was complicated by storm weather and waves up to four meters high. As the "Novik" continued its SAR operation, a specially equipped Be-200 amphibious aircraft was dispatched from the city of Khabarovsk to join the search. By nightfall, the aircraft was forced to return home after finding no sign of the missing ship or its crew. Severe weather prevented smaller planes from joining the rescue mission.
