Activists arrested after trying to prevent cruise ship from docking in Rotterdam
A group of protesters tried to prevent the 'Ventura' from docking in Rotterdam on Aug 24. 15 Extinction Rebellion activists attempted to stop the vessel, using boats and canoes to block a berth near Hotel New York. The protest was eventually dismissed by the police, who arrested two of the activists. The blockage delayed the docking manoever by approximately half an hour. After sailing from Southampton on Aug 23, the 'VenturaÄ sailed to Rotterdam as part of a short cruise to the Netherlands.In addition to an overnight stay at the port, the itinerary of the 3,100-guest ship also included a day cruising in the North Sea and the English Channel.
Crew member medevaced off Fisterra
On Aug 21, 2025, the 'Ventura' requestsed the medical evacuation of a British crew member. The cruise ship was sailing 22 nautical miles west of Fisterra. The CCS Fisterra of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 402, which hoisted the patient and transferred him to the Alvedro airport (A Coruña), where an ambulance was waiting for the further transport to a local hospital for medical care on a higher level.
Cruise ship evacuated after man claimed to have explosive device
The 'Ventura' had to be evacuated after a man claimed to have an explosive device on Aug 9, 2025. Police were called to the Mayflower Cruise Ferry terminal in Southampton. A 200 metre cordon was put in place around the 'Ventura' and the terminal to allow specialist officers to search a lorry at the location. A man has been arrested on suspicion of communicating false information and a public order offence. Searches have concluded and no such device has been located. The forces of the Hampshire Police were stood down. Normal operations at the port were resumed.
