20 migrants repatriated to Dominican Republic
The 'Pablo Valent' repatriated 20 migrants to San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, on Dec 8, following the interdiction of an overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters off the western coast of Puerto Rico. During a routine patrol in the afternoon of Dec 7, a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine multirole enforcement aircraft detected a suspect vessel in Mona Passage waters northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan diverted the Coast Guard Cutter 'Richard Dixon' to intercept the grossly overloaded vessel. Once on scene, the 'Richard Dixon' launched the unit’s Over the Horizon small boat, stopped the makeshift vessel and safely embarked 17 men and three women, who claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals. The 'Pablo Valent' repatriated 82 people to Cuba on April 27, 2023, following interdictions off Florida’s coast. A good Samaritan notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders of a migrant vessel on April 22 at approximately 4:30 p.m., about 45 miles south of Marathon. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Edgar Culbertson' notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders of a migrant vessel on April 23 at approximately 5:15 p.m., about 23 miles north of Cayo Cruz Del Padre, Cuba. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders of a migrant vessel the same day at approximately 5:30 p.m., about 46 miles south of Key West. The 'Edgar Culbertson' notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders of a migrant vessel on April 25 at 11:40 a.m., about 69 miles south of Key West. A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a sailing vessel, on Jan 22 at approximately 2:10 p.m., about 5 miles southeast of John Pennekamp Park. A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 law enforcement aircrew alerted Sector Key West watchstanders of a wooden vessel the same day at approximately 7:45 p.m., about 25 miles south of Sugar Loaf Key. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew alerted Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel, on Jan 23 at approximately 9:06 p.m., about 18 miles north of Matanzas, Cuba.
