Bridge allision in Stroobos
The "Theodela C" being loaded with 2,508 tons of methanol allided with the bridge at Stroobos over the Van Starkenborgh Canal on Feb 4, 2014, at 6 p.m.. The swing bridge was probably closed too soon. Both the tanker and the bridge were damaged and the tanker had to go to a yard for repairs. The vessel suffered dents and scratches, the railing was damaged as well as the navigational aids and camera. Employees of the Province of Friesland inspected the Bridge at 7 p.m. As a precaution , the bridge remained open for shipping during the night so that it could not be used for other traffic.
