Patrol boat rescued 17 distressed migrants
On Aug 9, 2020, at 2:09 p.m., the CROSS Gris-Nezwas contacted by a sailboat which reported an inflatable boat with migrants in difficulty off Calais. The CROSS deployed the 'Thémis' to the scene. After relocation by a merchant ship, the 'Thémis' arrived in the area at 4:09 p.m. and took care of the 17 migrants, including two children, two adolescents and four women. Both children were very tired and had minor injuries due to prolonged exposure to the sun. They appeared to have spent a dozen hours on the water. The CROSS initiates a medical conference with the SAMU in Le Havre. It was recommended that the castaways were to be taken care of by the firefighters upon their arrival. At 5:59 p.m., the castaways were taken care of by the rescue and victim assistance vehicle of the fire department of the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) 62 and by the border police at the port of Calais.
