RNLI assisted drifting vessel

Tue Apr 26 10:21:10 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Apr 25, 2016, at 11 a.m. the "Tecla" went adrift in the Oban Bay in strong North-Westerly winds. The Stornoway Coastguard requested the launch of the Oban RNLI Lifeboat "Mora Edith MacDonald". The sailing vessel which had been anchored in Oban Bay, off the East side of the Isle of Kerrera for several days had dragged anchor and was drifting across Oban Bay. Due to the wind speed and direction the vessel was in imminent danger of drifting into the moorings or the shoreline to the South of Oban Sailing Club. The lifeboat arrived on scene at 11.15 a.m. to discover that the vessel had two people on board. The volunteer crew offered assistance but the occupants were happy to reset their anchor without any additional help. A third member of the yacht's crew arrived shortly after to assist in anchoring. As the situation was now under control and there was no more danger to the yacht or the crew Oban lifeboat returned to station where she was made ready for service at 11.35 a.m. Report with photo: http://forargyll.com/?p=105989
