Collision on Sulina Canal

On Aug 28, 2024, the 'Sundy' , carrying 6,228 tons of barleysuffered a main engine failure on the Sulina Canal at kilometer 18. The ship was forced to an emergency anchorage. During this maneuver, it was struck by the tanker 'Mazu Xiao', which was carrying a cargo of 6,620 tons of diesel fuel from Constanta to Izmail, struck the 'Sindry' at the starboard side stern, which was heavily damaged above the water line. The tanker continued to Tulcea and anchored in pios. 45° 12' N 028° 52' E for further investigations, while the 'Sundry' remained in Sulina for checks. The navigation on the Sulina Canal continued as normal, with no pollution reported. The Sulina Port Authority has opened an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
